Valentine’s day special

Cassy Njoku February 13, 2021

It's almost that time of the year again, February 14. Where the world speaks one language ( the language of love), with one dress code and sending gifts to the ones dear to their hearts to affirm that truly it is a special day to show Love.

Ofcourse we are familiar with the term ‘Valentine’s day’, but do we know why valentine’s day is called valentine’s day? Okay, let’s break it down. Valentine’s Day also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. It originated as a western Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and is recognized as a significant cultural, religious and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world. Now, we are not diving deep into details about St Valentines and Valentine’s day. But if you would like to read more on it, check out Google. This is just a preamble to get you acquainted with valentine’s day. Valentine’s day is observed by sending gifts and greeting cards, going to church services, going out on dates, etc.

"What is this world without Love?"

And nope! This isn’t a ‘singles guide on how to spend valentine’s day’. Regardless of the fact that you have a partner or not, this post is for you. You don’t have to sit in your bed with your phone in your hand and some snacks by your side watching videos on Instagram posted by lovers who are celebrating valentine and wondering why it isn’t you. You don’t have to do that. There are tons of fun activities to do with or without a partner, you can spread love too because ‘what is this world without Love’? . Okay, let’s get started.

1. Show love to any orphanage- Well, this had to be number one on the list. I got to spend valentines with some kids last year before the pandemic came in full force and I won’t lie, it felt good showing them love and having smiles on their faces.

2. Visit your family – It’s the season of Love right? If you’ve been away for a while then you can go and spend quality time with your family, even if it’s just for a day, or extend your valentine and let it start from Friday towards the weekend. No big deal.

3. Watch a Valentine’s day movie – Light a mood-setting candle, make some snacks, pop some popcorn and just watch a valentines day movie or any at all.

4. Play some game with friends – Gather around with some friends and play fun games together. Like Scrabble, ludo, whot, fun party games and all that.

5. Cook – You can try out some new recipes and learn to make new dishes. You can cook alone, with a partner or even with friends. It will be a fun experience.

6. Visit a museum – This can be a great experience for just you, you and your partner or you and some friends. Looking at art and knowing it’s history. Seems fun.

There are tons of other activities too. Like, visit a karaoke bar and sing your heart out, visit a spa and book a massage, visit a game house and play lots of games, listen and dance to music.
